About EdgeWare & Robert Lang
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EdgeWare is a software group developed by myself, Robert Lang, with the
intention of providing quality software to users and developers.
About Me :
~~~~~~~~
I am a developer with a 3000UXD, that's an Amiga 3000 with 9 megs of RAM,
running UNIX with a 200 meg hard drive. I have developed lots of public domain,
shareware, and custom programs (ie. for people who have requested software
for a specific task), but as yet haven't developed anything commercial in
the sense of mass distribution....mainly due to time constaints....this being
my last year in my Computer Engineering degree at Newcastle University,
I hope to get some time to develop something sooner or later. I also have
a 500 with little bits of hardware on it, and a Bit Blitzer 2400 baud modem
I regularly use the following software, and give credit to the authors :
GPTerm - by Greg Perry of GPSoftware, for all my communications.
Macro68 - by DigiSoft, the most awesome assembler bar none !
ReSource - by Glen McDiarmid, what can I say ??? Its the best !
CygnusEd - my favourite editor after trying a few !
FullView - PD program by Jonathon Potter, view text files just the
way I like it.
PowerPacker - to save myself some diskspace, everyone knows this program !
ToolManager - the *best* Workbench 2 companion.
and more that I should name....
Plus support ALL AUSTRALIAN SOFTWARE.....
Achievements:
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Apart from the software developments, I also write reviews for various
magazines, and my articles have been published around the world...even
though I only submit to Australian magazines, they still make it around !
Believe it or not, some of my articles and PD programs have been translated
into other languages !!!
I do a lot of work for MegaDisc Digital Publishing (AUSTRALIA), including
selling magazines at shows, articles, programming, answering questions
and all sorts of stuff !
I've supplied, organise, and reviewed a lot of PD software for Megadisc,
including my popular Topik disks (hey, I'm no Fred Fish, though !) and
more recently "MegaArc" disks.
I have also beta-tested various pieces of software for Australian Companies,
and enjoy doing this, so send me something and I'll test it ! Remember,
tinkering is my hobby !
I've taught many lectures on the Amiga, from beginning level to advanced,
as well as programming lectures...
I have assisted with Bulletin Boards run for the Amiga, and managed
many Bulletin Board Amiga Areas for people who are mainly IBM and have
Amiga sections.
Worked for some time in retail at a local chain of Amiga Stores....
Probably a lot that I haven't mentioned, like I receive a scholarship
from BHP Newcastle for my Computer Engineering degree....and have developed
a lot of software on various non-Amiga platforms.
Most importantly, I can summarise what I haven't listed here by saying
that I've had my hand in a lot of the Amiga in Australia !!!
But hey, I figure that anyone person who recognises the power of the Amiga
is doing the same all over the world...
~~~~~~~~~~~~
All my current software is developed as a "hobby", where I sit and tinker
for a few hours and produce something useful to myself and release it in the
hope that it may be useful to others....I've received many letters indicating
this (as well as donations !), and this is what keeps me going.
Sometimes I wonder why I have time to develop lots of little toys and not
one big package, and the simple explanation is that its a great stress relief
that is helping me get through Uni, and also a fantastic learning tool so
that when I have the time I'll have the ability as well.
You can contact me at the address below for any software development for
the Amiga at all (actually I can develop on various platforms, but the
Amiga is my favourite !), whether its for a PD request, changes to existing
programs, commerical development, or custom programs, reviews of
software/hardware, distribution of software/hardware, ANYTHING at all...
You can even write to just comment or chat, I'll reply either way....
Naturally, all donations are accepted, they'll just give me more incentive
to keep on developing !
